The official name was explained as:

Covid 19 corona virus

You don’t want to know what this bad, bad bug will do to your lungs!

Where the evil little virus originated is still open to debate! The Chinese blame the USA and the 45th President calls it the Chinese Virus. (I’m sure you will have noticed that more recently he has bitten his tongue and referred to the prolific killer virus as Corona Virus). A microbiologist from Switzerland’s expert opinion is that Covid 19 is a laboratory developed virus. This particular type of Corona virus was thought only able to exist in animals and unable to cross the zoonotic barrier and infect humans.

Covid 19 zoonotic

The now closed down live animal food Market in Wuhan is the official originating place of Covid 19. It is said that staff from the Wuhan Microbiology Research Centre, situated some 300 metres from the Market, were supplying animals from the research centre to the animal food market. If that turns out to be fact, then the implications are that Trump is correct. Wuhan went into immediate lockdown overnight, confirming that it was ground zero of the outbreak.

Covid 19 Wuhan streets

Wuhan’s empty streets, with a lonely pedestrian challenging the Corona Virus. Recently the Chinese claimed they have Covid 19 under control and have allowed their citizens back onto the streets.

Then the other story is that 350 soldiers from the US of A attended a Military Gathering in Wuhan in October 2019 and left the virus behind in drums that were discovered in the US embassy there. More probably this is Chinese mis-information. But I’m sure evidence will be offered, or created, to support that theory. With many web sites and memorandums out there having have a similar ring, then a conspiracy is almost guaranteed

Italy, hardest hit western country until just a few days ago, when Spain began reporting their tragic losses, had a visit from two Covid 19 infected Chinese tourists in late January ’20 and the rest is sad, sad history when Italy overtook the Chinese’ official number of deaths. Although virtually impossible to show any evidence, there are first hand reports of many, many more deaths in mainland China and of mass graves of people and animals alike, a thought, or vision, hard to bear. Spain is now reporting many more deaths than Italy and the Nation is in lock down.

Covid 19 Wuhan and disinfectant

Chinese streets being sprayed with disinfectant and even more disinfectant.

The sad tally of deaths and graphic descriptions floating around of how this virus attacks, particularly, the lungs, calling on reinforcements from one’s body’s antibodies, and then goes on to convince those would be life saving antibodies to attack healthy cells, causing often irreparable damage and to many, their last breath, play constantly on one’s mind.

Covid 19 lung damage

A CAT scan of lungs devastated by Covid 19. If you’re a smoker be even more afraid.

What is vital now for the World is to restrict contact and movement and to recall lessons learned during the Spanish Flu of the 1920s! The World then was also in lockdown and a challenging place to be. You weren’t around then, you say…! Below an extract from a letter to Rosemary, written whilst in isolation in southern France, by F. Scott Fitzgerald:

“Dearest Rosemary,

It was a limpid dreary day, hung as in a basket from a single dull star. I thank you for your letter. Outside, I perceive what may be a collection of fallen leaves tussling against a trash can. It rings like jazz to my ears. The streets are that empty. It seems as though the bulk of the city has retreated to their quarters, rightfully so. At this time, it seems very poignant to avoid all public spaces. Even the bars, as I told Hemingway, but to that he punched me in the stomach, to which I asked if he had washed his hands. He hadn’t. He is much the denier, that one. Why, he considers the virus to be just influenza. I’m curious of his sources.

The officials have alerted us to ensure we have a month’s worth of necessities. Zelda and I have stocked up on red wine, whiskey, rum, vermouth, absinthe, white wine, sherry, gin, and lord, if we need it, brandy. Please pray for us.”

That little piece of literary brilliance, comedy and history all in one was forwarded from a good friend and his superior half, who are spending 14 days in self isolation, after returning to Perth, Australia from Africa. Holed up in their shack overlooking Warnbro Sound, with sea views, within earshot of the gentle roar but they might as well be in Alice Springs, as the sandy beach is taboo for another week or so! I hope they have stocked up as well as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda!

Covid 19 Spanish flu

A 100 years ago the Spanish Flu devastated the World, also overwhelming hospitals, Doctors and Nurses.

As sad fact of life for those trapped in the Republic of South Africa, who start today, March 27th, 2020, with 21 days of lockdown, is that the intelligensia have declared that the booze stores must close for those 21 days! This will include wine sales at supermarkets, enforcing an almost state of prohibition on a people whose very survival is dependent on a daily glass of wine, or two!

My thoughts and Prayers go out to all who have lost loved ones, those who are under attack, unable to carry on with life as usual, particularly mothers who have the kids at home after the schools were declared closed until after the Easter Break, and wives who suffer even more with hubby barred from going to work and working from home!

The Italian Air Force gives a big emotional lift to their nation with Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma (let no one sleep) and where the lyrics say venceremos (we will overcome), the skilled pilots position their planes dramatically facing, and overpowering the single plane (virus) with their National Flag!
